The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley awarded $38,500 in college scholarships to 35 graduating seniors from across the school district. The amount of scholarships allotted in 2017 increased by 43% from the previous year. Thank you to our generous scholarship donors and Colorado Gives Day contributors. BSK CPAs Accounting Scholarship – Anthony Allman
This $1,000 scholarship is provided by JBSK one of the leading CPA firms in and throughout the Longmont area. The firm’s partners are very community oriented and interested in providing support to students who are pursuing a degree in accounting. Their long term hope is that such students will return to the Longmont area to practice accounting possibly at their firm. This years’s scholarship has gone to Anthony Allman of Silver Creek High School. He is attending Black Hills State University in the fall.
EFSVV and FRCC Partner Scholarship – Kathryn Alonzo
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. This year, 11 EFSVV and FRCC Partner Scholarships for $1,000 were awarded to seniors planning to enroll at Front Range Community College. Kathryn Alonzo of Longmont High School will be attending FRCC and focusing on machining.
Dance Enrichment Scholarship – Kaitlyn Beale
The $500 Dance Enrichment Scholarship is for a senior with a demonstrated a passion for dance, has extensive dance training and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. Kaitlyn Beale of Mead High School will be attending the University of Northern Colorado and plans to major in either psychology or criminal justice.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. Samantha Biles of Niwot High School will be attending FRCC and plans to major in criminal justice.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. Jesi Buckley of Erie High School will be dual enrolled at FRCC and Metropolitan State University and she plans to major in nursing.
Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship – Vanessa Bonilla
Laurel, Julia’s mother, taught ESL and social studies at Sunset Middle School for 4 years. She and her husband, Christopher, along with their family and friends, are providing a scholarship to support a student who embodies their hopes for their daughter. Graduating seniors with financial need who have demonstrated a commitment to serving their community by using their bilingual language skills to bring people together are considered for this $1,000 scholarship. This year’s recipient is Vanessa Bonilla of Skyline High School. She will be attending Front Range Community College in the fall and intends to become a pediatric surgeon.
Amerikick Martial Arts Future Leader Scholarship – Riley Christianssen
This $1,000 scholarship was established by Michael and Shelby Wax the owners and head instructors of Amerikick Martial Arts in Longmont. They both work closely with their students to develop leadership skills such as confidence and character. Providing this scholarship is another way that Michael and Shelby are able to support the development of future leaders in our community. This year’s recipient is Riley Christianssen of Erie High School. Riley will be attending CSU in the fall and intends to obtain a major in business with a concentration in marketing.

The Above All Scholarship is provided by the The Pearl Group, a local organization that focuses on providing single parent families support to build an economically and emotionally stable home environment through sustainable programs. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to students of single parent families who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives. One of this year’s recipients is Riley Christianssen of Erie High School. Riley will be attending CSU in the fall and intends to obtain a major in business with a concentration in marketing.
Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics – Elizabeth Clifton
Michael’s family and friends provide the funding for this scholarship of $1,000. Michael had a thirst for knowledge, adventure and travel and absolutely loved playing Monopoly. This scholarship is intended to go to the “top” math student at Longmont High School. The candidate is selected by the math department at the school. Elizabeth Clifton is this year’s recipient. She will be attending Brown University and plans to major in geology with an emphasis in biology.
Director’s Scholarship – McKinley Coppock
The Directors’ Scholarships are funded by donations to EFSVV on Colorado Gives Day. Each scholarship is for $1,000. The scholarship recipients are chosen with the guidance and support of the Education Foundation Board of Directors. Mckinley Coppock of Silver Creek High School is the recipient of one of this year’s Director’s Scholarship. She will be attending CU Boulder in the fall.

The scholarship recipients are chosen with the guidance and support of the Education Foundation Board of Directors. Rachel Cross of Silver Creek High School is the recipient of one of this year’s Director’s Scholarships. She will be attending the Colorado School of Mines to major in Engineering and Physics.
EFSVV and FRCC Partner Scholarship – David Demers
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. David Demers plans to complete two years at FRCC before transferring to CU Boulder. He intends to major in Mathematics.
Director’s Scholarship – Katie Emberley
The Directors’ Scholarships are funded by donations to EFSVV on Colorado Gives Day. Each scholarship is for $1,000. The scholarship recipients are chosen with the guidance and support of the Education Foundation Board of Directors. Katie Emberley of Silver Creek High School is the recipient of one of this year’s Director’s Scholarships. She will be attending Northeastern University and intends to major in Behavioral Neuroscience.
Rhonda Herrman Community Service Scholarship – Taryn Eveland
This scholarship was established in honor of Rhonda Hermann, former member of the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union staff. Rhonda was influential in establishing the SVVCU Community Involvement Committee as a way to give back to the communities the Credit Union served. Elevations Credit Union, following its merger with SVVCU, gladly continues Rhonda’s vision through this scholarship program. The focus of this scholarship is community service and candidates must have at least 75 hours of volunteer or community service over the past 12 months. Two scholarships for $1,000 have been awarded to graduating seniors this year. Taryn Eveland of Longmont High School is one recipient. Taryn will be attending Montana State University this fall where she plans to major in fish and wildlife ecology and management.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. Carmen Fernandez of Longmont High School is one of this year’s scholarship recipients.

Daisy Frias of Frederick High School is one of this year’s scholarship recipients.
Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship – Sarah Fritsche
The Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship is for a graduating senior who has a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, at least an ACT score of 28 or its equivalent SAT score, documentation of community service and work with children, and a stated reason for wanting to become a teacher. This $1,000 scholarship is to be used to major in education or related field with intent to become a teacher. One of the two of this year’s recipients is Sarah Fritsche of Erie High School. Sarah is attending Colorado Christian University in the fall where she plans to major in education.

Mikayla will be attending Houghton College in the fall where she plans to build a major to include psychology, pre-physical therapy and pre-athletic training.

Donna Bower Educational Scholarship – Savannah Leigh
Donna Bower was a long time employee of the St. Vrain Valley School District at Rocky Mountain Elementary. Her family is honoring her dedication to students with this scholarship. Each year the scholarship committee awards up to $1,000 to a graduating senior who has had to overcome personal obstacles to get to graduation day, has perhaps attended Rocky Mountain Elementary or is the child of a single parent. This year’s recipient is Savannah Leigh of Olde Columbine High School. Savannah will be attending Metropolitan State University in the fall to study global business.
Anadarko Energy Academy Scholarship – William Malesenka
This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student has participated with the Mead High School Energy Academy. Anadarko has been a key supporter of the Energy Academy. This year’s recipient is William Malesenka of Mead High School. William will be attending CSU in the fall.

The Kathy Hall Future Impact Scholarship was established by the EFSVV Board of Directors to honor Kathy Hall for her years of dedicated service as a member of the St. Vrain School District Board of Education and her volunteer service as Executive Director of the Education Foundation. The $2,000 scholarship is jointly funded by the Hall family and EFSVV. This year’s recipient is Nikayta Neu of Frederick High School. Nikayta will be attending CSU- Pueblo in the fall to study nursing.
Brett Meade Scholarship for Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Studies – Georgena Ratliff
Brett’s mother, Pat Meade, honors her son by providing this $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who wishes to pursue a career in Agricultural and Animal Husbandry studies. This year’s recipient is Georgena Ratliff of Niwot High School. Georgena is attending Oklahoma State University this fall where she plans to double major in Agricultural Communications and Animal Science.
Scott Meade Art Scholarship – Morgan Rosebrock
Scott’s mother, Pat Meade, honors her son by providing this $500 scholarship to a Longmont High School Senior who has demonstrated excellence in art and is planning to pursue art in college. EFSVV and FRCC Partnership Scholarship – Dillon Silvernail
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and the Front Range Community College Foundation have joined in partnership to offer scholarships to students from the St. Vrain Valley School District area who plan to attend Front Range Community College. Dillon Silvernail of Olde Columbine is one of this year’s recipients. Dillon plans to complete two years at FRCC before transferring to Metro State University. He plans to major in English.
Larry Sieckmann Memorial Scholarship – Anastasia Sjahputera
Larry Sieckmann’s family and friends honor his memory with this $1,000 scholarship. Larry was a long time community resident proudly involved in community banking and local civic organizations. He was vitally interested in making the Longmont and Mead area a great place to work and raise children to become well-rounded, successful adults. This year’s recipient is Anastasia Sjahputera of Mead High School. Anastasia is attending the Colorado School of Mines in the fall where she intends to major in biochemical engineering.
Kathy Hall Future Impact Scholarship – Nicole Smith
The Kathy Hall Future Impact Scholarship was established by the EFSVV Board of Directors to honor Kathy Hall for her years of dedicated service as a member of the St. Vrain School District Board of Education and her volunteer service as Executive Director of the Education Foundation. The $2,000 scholarship is jointly funded by the Hall family and EFSVV. One of this year’s recipients is Nicole Smith of Lyons Middle/Senior. Nicole will be attending the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs in the fall where she plans to major in computer security.

The Above All Scholarship is provided by the The Pearl Group, a local organization that focuses on providing single parent families support to build an economically and emotionally stable home environment through sustainable programs. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to students of single parent families who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives. One of this year’s recipients is Nicole Smith of Lyons Middle/Senior. Nicole will be attending the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs in the fall where she plans to major in computer security.
Rhonda Herrman Community Service Scholarship – Jessica Tremolini
This scholarship was established in honor of Rhonda Hermann, former member of the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union staff. Rhonda was influential in establishing the SVVCU Community Involvement Committee as a way to give back to the communities the Credit Union served. Elevations Credit Union, following its merger with SVVCU, gladly continues Rhonda’s vision through this scholarship program. The focus of this scholarship is community service and candidates must have at least 75 hours of volunteer or community service over the past 12 months. Two scholarships for $1,000 have been awarded to graduating seniors this year. One recipient is Jessica Tremolini of Silver Creek High School. Jessica will be attending Flagler College in the fall.

Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship – Brenna White
The Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship is for a graduating senior who has a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, at least an ACT score of 28 or its equivalent SAT score, documentation of community service and work with children, and a stated reason for wanting to become a teacher. This $1,000 scholarship is to be used to major in education or related field with intent to become a teacher. One of this year’s recipients is Brenna White of Skyline High School. Brenna will be attending Portland State University in the fall where she plans to focus on English.
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley is very pleased to announce that $26,500 in college scholarships has been awarded to 26 graduating seniors from across the school district. The amount of scholarships allotted in 2016 increased by 36% from the previous year.
AmeriKick Martial Arts Future Leadership Scholarship
The AmeriKick Martial Arts Future Leadership scholarship was awarded to Verena O’Malley, Longmont High in the amount of $1,000. The scholarship is provided by Michael and Shelby Wax, owners of AmeriKick Martial Arts in Longmont and focuses on martial arts and/or leadership development training. Verena has a Tae Kwon Do, 1st degree black belt and plans to attend Regis University.
Axis of Movement Dance Enrichment Scholarship
The Axis of Movement Dance Enrichment Scholarship was awarded to Skyler Bortz, Mead High in the amount of $500. The scholarship focuses on academic achievement and dance development training. Skyler has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern, and hip hop. She plans to attend the University of Akron.
The Donna Bower Education Scholarship
The Donna Bower Educational Scholarship was awarded to Ulises Garcia, Skyline High, in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship focuses on financial need and overcoming hardships and is sponsored by Donna Bower’s daughter, Jessica Cooney and her family. Ulises was a student at Rocky Mountain Elementary and he is the first in his family to go to college. He plans to attend Colorado Christian University.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley Directors’ Scholarships were awarded to Alana Carlson, Niwot High and Mariah Lorenz, Erie High in the amount of $1,000. The Foundation’s Board of Directors awards this scholarship to extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated they will truly benefit from financial support. The recipient is selected from the pool of candidates that the Foundation’s selection committee reviews for other scholarships. Alana plans to attend Bryn Mawr College where she will pursue a teaching degree with a focus on poetry. Mariah plans to attend University of Northern Colorado where she will pursue a teaching degree with a focus on history.

The JBSK Accounting Scholarship
The JBSK Accounting Scholarship was awarded to Marissa Casey, Lyons Middle Senior in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is interested in pursuing a career in accounting. Marissa plans to attend the University of Colorado Boulder to pursue cultural anthropology and accounting.
The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship
The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mohica Nagpal, Niwot High in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship, sponsored by the Stolte family, supports bilingual students with financial need who have made a difference in their community. Mohica speaks both English and Hindi and has held countless leadership roles within her school and the St. Vrain community. She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania.
The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics
The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Ethan Gabrielle ($500), Lazlo Stepback ($1,000) and Ryan Rulon ($500) — all from Longmont High. The Longmont High School counselors and faculty of the math department recommended these students. The recipients of the Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship not only receive financial support for college, but they also walk away from the award ceremony with a Monopoly game!

The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship
The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship was awarded to Mckenzie Peila, Silver Creek High and Sierra Tucker, Lyons Middle Senior in the amount of $1,000 each. These scholarships are sponsored by the Elevations Credit Union to recognize students committed to helping others. Mckenzie has volunteered over 125 hours in the year 2015 and plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado. Sierra has volunteered over 100 hours in the years 2014 – 2015 and plans to attend Colorado State University.
Larry Sieckmann Memorial Scholarship
The Larry Sieckmann Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sophia Smith, Mead High in the amount of $1,000. The scholarship is awarded by Larry’s family and friends in honor of Larry’s long time involvement in community banking and local civic organizations. Sophia’s application stood out based on her well-rounded nature, academic strength and financial need. She plans to attend Hope College.
The Scott Mead Art Scholarship
The Scott Mead Art Scholarship was awarded to Jessica Herold, Longmont High in the amount of $500. This scholarship is awarded annually by the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley to a Longmont High School graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in art and is planning to pursue art in college. The Longmont High School counselors and faculty of the art department highly recommended Jessica.
The Brett Meade Scholarship for Agricultural & Animal Husbandry Studies
The Brett Meade Scholarship was awarded to William Cook, Longmont High in the amount of $1,000. Billy has stated that his inability to have pets while he was growing up has been “one of the greatest tragedies of my life.” Pat Meade’s son Brett was very involved in agriculture in the local community. Pat honors him by providing scholarship support to a student interested in pursuing a degree in agriculture, animal husbandry or veterinary medicine. Billy intends to become a veterinary and to attend Colorado State University.
Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship
The Tutoring Club of Longmont Future Teacher Scholarship was awarded to Mackenzie Hill and Tianna Chandler in the amount of $1,000 each. The scholarship focuses on graduating seniors who intend to pursue an education related degree. Mackenzie plans to attend the University of South Carolina and Tianna plans to attend either Colorado University or Colorado State University.
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley is very pleased to announce that $19,500 in college scholarships has been awarded to 20 graduating seniors from all across the school district. This amount and the number of students is twice that of last year’s awards.
The Alpha Martial Arts Future Leader Scholarship
The Alpha Martial Arts Future Leader Scholarship was awarded to Kristine Appel, Longmont High, in the amount of $1,000. Kristine has an exceptional academic record and routinely demonstrates strong leadership skills and is a first degree black belt. She is planning to attend either Ohio State University or the University of Colorado – Boulder to further her education in the bioengineering field of prosthetic science.

The Donna Bower Educational Scholarship was awarded to Noel Garcia, Skyline High, in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship focuses on financial need and overcoming hardships and is sponsored by Donna Bower’s daughter Jessica Cooney and her family. Noel, the eldest of five brothers, has overcome a lot of adversity in his short life. He is committed to being a good example for his siblings by being the first in his family to go to college. He is planning to attend the University of Colorado – Boulder in the fall

Alejandro is an outstanding student who routinely demonstrates leadership skills and clearly understands the importance of community volunteer service. This scholarship will help him defray some of the cost of attending Red Rocks Community College on the way to becoming a certified personal trainer.

Some know exactly what they want to do in the future, including pursuing careers in the medical field, while others are open to trying new paths. Regardless of the end result, their leadership skills and determination will take them far.

The JBSK Accounting Scholarship for $1,000 was awarded for the first time this year to Jenevie Nuñez, Skyline High. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is interested in pursuing a career in accounting. Jenevie is interested in doing just that. Coming from a difficult childhood, she recognized early on that she needed to stand out academically, which she has certainly done. Her goals are to attend the University of Colorado – Boulder, major in business and eventually become a CPA.

The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Victoria Sonora, Skyline High, in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship, sponsored by the Stolte family, supports bilingual students with financial need who have made a difference in their community. Throughout high school she has used her bilingual skills to help incoming freshman get used to high school, manage the soccer team and to help residents at a local retirement community. She is committed to getting a college education and pursuing a career that will make a difference in people’s lives. Victoria will be attending the University of Colorado – Denver to become a registered nurse with the goal of joining the Peace Corps.

He is a well-balanced student-leader with an excellent GPA, a football player, member of the orchestra, on the debate team and if that isn’t enough, is the operation manager at a local fitness center. Sean is planning to attend the Colorado School of Mines.

The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Ethan Hitchcock, Longmont High, in the amount of $1,000. Ethan has a “love of learning math” and wants to make sure that “everyone in class has the opportunity to learn.” He was very highly recommended for the “top math student” by the Math Department at LHS.

The Pearl Group Above All Scholarship was awarded for the first time this year to Kristian Brubaker, Silver Creek High, and Alysia Martin, Longmont High, for $1,000 each. This scholarship is intended to give students of single parents the opportunity to obtain a college education and long-term stability in their lives. Both of these students come from difficult family situations but have set goals to overcome the obstacles of the past. Kristian is planning to attend Baylor University and pursue a career in pediatrics. Alysia is considering attending Loyola Marymount University and ultimately working with at-risk and disabled youth.

The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship was awarded to Emily Calzolari, Mead High, and Alex Rodgers, Silver Creek, in the amount of $1,000 each. These scholarships are sponsored by the Elevations Credit Union to recognize students committed to helping others. Just in this past year, Emily has volunteered over 300 hours with the Mead Rotary, the Girl Scouts and many other community and school organizations while still maintaining an outstanding GPA. Alex has been an active volunteer for many years and most recently initiated and coordinated all of the phases of a shoe and clothing donation program for flood victims with Vans Shoes. Emily is planning to attend CU – Boulder and Alex is going to attend Belmont University.

The Scott Meade Art Scholarship was awarded to Sierra Brady, Longmont High School, in the amount of $500. Sierra has “distinguished herself with her academic excellence, leadership ability and jovial attitude” and was enthusiastically recommended for this scholarship by the Art Department at LHS. Sierra is planning attend the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and hopes one day to be an underwater photographer for National Geographic.

This year’s scholarship recipients, their guests, school officials and the financial contributors to the scholarships were honored at an awards celebration on April 22.
The Scott Meade Art Scholarship
The Scott Meade Art Scholarship was awarded to Jenna Zimmerman, Longmont High School in the amount of $500. Jenna has “discovered herself through art” and was enthusiastically recommended for this scholarship by the Art Department at LHS. Jenna is planning to “combine her love of children and art” through a degree in developmental psychology at the University of Colorado – Boulder.
The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics
The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Kianna Lauck and Kathryn Schell, Longmont High School in the amounts of $750 each. Kianna and Kathryn “share the passion for mathematics and learning in general … they both want to know how math works and why it makes sense.” Both young women were very highly recommended for this scholarship by the Math Department at LHS.
The Larry Sieckmann Memorial Scholarship
The Larry Sieckmann Memorial Scholarship was awarded for the first time this year to Kianna Lauck, Longmont High School in the amount of $1,000. She is a well-balance student with a 4.4 GPA, strong volunteer activities and interests in both sports and music. Kianna is considering studying engineering at Lehigh University.

The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship was awarded to Christopher Erwin, Frederick High School, and Megan Tatusko, Niwot High School, in the amount of $1,000 each. These scholarships are sponsored by the Elevations Credit Union to recognize students committed to helping others. Christopher has volunteered over 100 hours at the Longmont Humane Society and other Key Club and National Honor Society events this past year while still maintaining his position as class valedictorian. Megan’s love for community service in apparent in her over 180 hours of church and civic youth group service including volunteering with Kindness for Kids and Youth Equipped to Serve (YES). Christopher is planning to attend the Colorado School of Mines and Megan is considering going to Cornell University.

The Donna Bower Educational Scholarship was awarded to Esmeralda Sarai De Mendez, Niwot High School, in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship focuses on financial need and overcoming hardships and is sponsored by Donna Bower’s daughter, Jessica Cooney, and her family. Donna was the long time secretary at Rocky Mountain Elementary. Sarai is a young mother determined to become an English teacher. She will be attending Front Range Community College in the fall.

The Alpha Martial Arts Future Leader Scholarship was awarded for the first time to Prerit Oberai, Niwot High School in the amount of $1,000. Prerit has an outstanding academic record and routinely demonstrates strong leadership and mentoring skills throughout the community. He is planning to attend the University of Colorado – Boulder to further his education in science and engineering.

The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Christian Mucha, Longmont High School in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship, sponsored by the Stolte family, supports bilingual students with financial need who have made a difference in their community. During his high school career Christian made significant use of his bilingual skills while volunteering approximately 300 hours with the Longmont Community Justice Partnership. He will be the first person in his family to attend college and is planning to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.

The Foundation’s board of directors awards this scholarship to extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated they will truly benefit from our support. The recipient is selected from the pool of candidates the Foundation’s selection committee reviews for other scholarships. Stephanie is an excellent student who cites her single mother’s “courage in the face of hardships” as her inspiration to pursuing a college education. Stephanie is planning to attend Colorado State University this fall.

These scholarships are sponsored by the Elevations Credit Union this year to recognize students committed to helping others. During her senior year, Jessica has volunteered over 150 hours at Avista Hospital’s New Life Center and as a gardener and instructor at the 2nd Start Community Garden. As part of her school’s leadership program, Kailee put on a soccer camp for Columbine Elementary students and worked routinely with post-secondary special needs students. Jessica is planning to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology and Kailee will be going to the University of Colorado – Boulder.

The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Brisco Arechederra, Longmont High School in the amount of $1,000. Brisco, who ranks #2 in his graduating class, not only challenges himself with the most rigorous of math courses but is “always looking for ways to make the learning fun.” He was very highly recommended for this scholarship by the Math Department at LHS. Brisco will be attending Colorado State University this fall.

The Scott Meade Art Scholarship was awarded to Anna McCabe, Longmont High School in the amount of $500. Anna is an “excellent artist” enthusiastically recommended for this scholarship by the Art Department at LHS. Anna is planning to “pursue her love for fashion design” at the Denver Art Institute.
Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship
The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Samantha Macias, Skyline High School in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship, sponsored by the Stolte family, supports bilingual students with financial need who have made a difference in their community. During her high school career Samantha has spent hundreds of hours mentoring elementary school students and working with the elderly. Samantha is planning to attend the University of Colorado – Boulder this fall.

Donna was the long time secretary at Rocky Mountain Elementary. While living on her own and working, Elizabeth is the first member of her family to graduate high school and go on to college. Elizabeth will be attending Front Range Community College in the fall.

This scholarship focuses on financial need and overcoming hardships and is sponsored by Donna Bower’s daughter Jessica Cooney and her family. Donna was the long time secretary at Rocky Mountain Elementary. Gisela is the first member of her family to go to college and is planning a career as a dental assistant. Gisela will be attending Front Range Community College in the fall.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley Directors’ Scholarship was awarded to Kimani Njenga, Olde Columbine High School and Anh Pham, Erie High School in the amount of $500 each. The Foundation’s board of directors awards this scholarship to extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated they will truly benefit from our support. These students were selected from the pool of candidates the Foundation’s selection committee reviews for other scholarships. Both Kimani and Anh are driven to succeed. They came to this country from Kenya and Vietnam, respectively, and are both enthusiastic about attending college. Kimani is planning to attend Front Range Community College and Ahn will be attending the University of Colorado – Denver.

The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship was awarded to Josie Valadez Fraire, Silver Creek High School and Brett Sorensen, Frederick High School in the amount of $1,000 each. These scholarships are sponsored by the Elevations Credit Union this year to recognize students committed to helping others. Among other activities, Josie has volunteered over 140 hours at Longmont Estates Elementary this year while attending both high school and cosmetology school.She has volunteered thousands of hours during her high school career. Brett has volunteered a significant number of hours supporting activities at LifeBridge Christian Church such as the special needs prom and has been active on the town of Frederick’s Youth Commission. Josie is planning to attend the University of Colorado – Boulder and Brett will be going to Colorado State University.

The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Rachel Transtrum, Longmont High School in the amount of $1,000. Rachel has a GPA of 4.3, with all A’s in tough math classes since entering high school. She was whole-heartedly recommended for this scholarship by the Math Department at LHS. Rachel has not finalized her college choice at this time.
Scott Meade Art Scholarship
The Scott Meade Art Scholarship was awarded to Michael Bramble, Longmont High School in the amount of $500. Michael was enthusiastically recommended for this scholarship by the Art Department at LHS. He is a “superlative” art student who is planning to study art at the University of Colorado.
Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship
The Julia Sage Stolte Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Bryan Paredes, Longmont High School and Thelma Pereda, Niwot High School in the amounts of $1,000 and $500, respectively. This scholarship, sponsored by the Stolte family,supports bilingual students with financial need who have made a difference in their community. Bryan has spent more than 700 hours tutoring at Alternatives for Youth (AFY) during his high school career, in addition to working part time. Thelma has demonstrated significant leadership skill in her volunteer activities at AFY as well. Bryan is planning to attend Front Range Community College this fall and Thelma will be attending Regis University.
